THE DEVELOPER
The developer is apparently Coriolis Energy, who are making out to be a 'small friendly Scottish company'. In reality they are backed by much larger concerns who are not so easy to untangle. Even on Coriolis Energy's own websites, there is conflicting information re. the backers. For example : on the Coriolis Energy website they appear to be part of a large Italian concern (Falck). On the Glendye Windfarm website Falck is not mentioned, instead ESB 'Ireland's premier energy company' is indicated as their development partner. Whoever it is that backs the Glendye windfarm has megabucks, as the investment cost has been estimated to be quarter of a billion pounds. Given this staggering amount of investment, it is really very hard to know who exactly is all hiding behind the puppet front of Coriolis Energy.
THE LANDLORD
The Landlord of Glendye and Clachnaben is Charles Gladstone (a descendant of Queen Victoria's prime minister). For many years he used the beautiful backdrop of his ancestral home at Glendye and the scenery around Clachnaben to advertise the lifestyle products in his 'Pedlars' catalogue. He always appeared a great advocate, protector and defender of Clachnaben and even did so publicly in an open letter which is attached below. Sadly at some point something made him change his mind and without consulting or informing local residents, he went ahead and made a deal with Coriolis Energy. For Clachnaben and the vicinity, it is alas nothing but a tragedy. The very person who was the custodian by fortunate birthright, and who could have protected Glendye and Clachnaben for generations to come, has decided to go and plant a cash crop of windfarms on it instead. On the 'How to object page' we have given Charles Gladstone's address. We should inform him that local people in the area DO care and that they deplore the legacy of destruction the windfarm will leave behind in one of the most beautiful corners of Deeside.
